Job Description

The Polk County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for a Jury Attendant. The primary duty for this position is to provide direction and support to those reporting for jury duty. This position is considered part-time/flexible, with an 'as-needed' schedule. Starting wage for this non-benefited position is $20.04 - $25.38/hr., DOE & qualifications. Essential Functions Ensures that jurors conform to the standards of courtroom demeanor. Serves as a communication liaison between the judge and the jurors. Prepares the courtroom for trial. Assists the judge during the trial and jury deliberations as directed by the judge. Protects the jury against any outside interference during their deliberations. Performs other duties as assigned of a similar nature or level.

Skills & Abilities Required:
Must be able to effectively read, write, and communicate in English Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, jurors, the public, and with the judges. This includes dealing with diverse people in a courteous and tactful manner Organize, prioritize and complete work assignments with minimal supervision and under time constraints including flexibility/adaptability to changing work assignments Must have good judgment and interpersonal skills Education and Experience High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Requirements This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices). Special Requirements Valid driver's license.
