The ideal candidate will be dedicated and detail-oriented in order to provide support to the Victim-Witness Program. In this role, you will assist with fact witness management and work closely with Victim-Witness personnel to ensure the judicial process runs smoothly. RESPONSIBILITIES I.
Witness Management Support Provide witness management assistance prior to, during, and after trial Work directly with witnesses to ensure appearance for court, pre-trial conferences, and grand jury Respond to witness field phone calls, questions, and other inquiries Notify attorneys of special circumstances or needs of witnesses Confer with attorneys regarding fact witness appearance and special circumstances Determine a witnesses' special circumstances or needs Meet with witnesses upon arrival to designated hearings or pre-trial conferences Perform courtroom orientation for witnesses Ensure a safe waiting area is available for witnesses Establish and maintain a variety of witness files, documents, and databases Assemble fact witness documents following established procedures and DOJ regulations for retention Establish and maintain a calendar or database of active and pending witness appearances Track hearings, trial dates, grand jury, and scheduling conferences II. Legal Assistant Support Obtain information and coordinate with the Court, Probation, Pretrial, U.S. Marshals Service, investigative agencies, etc. Edit documents according to DOJ style and format Compose letters using legal expertise in fact witness laws and regulations Perform other administrative and logistical witness management related duties as required or assigned III. Travel & Logistics Notify witnesses concerning travel arrangements and appearance date/time Obtain pertinent information for files and documents necessary to arrange witness travel and reimbursements Complete and submit documentation for special travel authorizations Obtain prior approval before proceeding with travel arrangements Ensure all travel documents and appearance dates and times are provided to witnesses prior to their appearance Make necessary arrangements for witness travel and lodging according to DOJ policies and procedures Collect necessary documentation and signatures for witness reimbursement documents Prepare and submit documentation for witness reimbursement, including witness vouchers Furnish requested information concerning pending and completed witness vouchers Gather required documentation and reconcile Government Travel Accounts
