Full Job Description Overview:

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Court Coordinator acts as a liaison between the hospital and identified county agencies in order to accurately and timely file court documentations necessary to conduct Mental Health Court. The Court Coordinator will be the point person for petitioners, patients, physicians, social workers, city solicitors and all others regarding Mental Health Court. The Court Coordinator will be the in-house educator of court documents. This individual will be knowledgeable of all involuntary patients in the hospital, their commitment status and commitment expiration dates and will work with the patients treatment team to identify individuals who may need to return to Mental Health Court for continued treatment. The Court Coordinator will also provide administrative support as assigned by the Director of Social Services / Case Management. This position requires providing service to all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Tracks all involuntary admissions. Works collaboratively with admissions department to review petitions for pending admissions as needed and to ensure court hearings can be accommodated within identified time frames. Coordinates hearing needs with the treatment teams. Maintains ongoing communication with teams regarding need for extended commitment hearings. Completes and submits paperwork necessary for hearings. Facilitates on-site hearings; acts as liaison for mobile court teams; operates teleconference equipment for hearings. Meets with PRS to review rights, contacts petitioners to inform of hearings, and communicates outcomes with involved parties. Ensures orders are present on chart. Maintains data on hearings and outcomes. Trains others on mental health court procedures; acts as the in-house expert on civil commitment law and hearings.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in social work or health field preferred. Two or more years' of related experience required. Understanding of court/criminal justice system and structure preferred.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS

CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility). First aid may be required based on state or facility.
