GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general direction of the 83rd Court Judge, these positions will provide high school, college, and law school students with the opportunity to experience the courtroom environment and the inner workings of the judges chambers. The internship may also include visits to various law enforcement entities within the jurisdiction of the 83rd District Court. Once exposed to the internal and external workings of the court, interns will gain first-hand experience of our judicial system and will be better prepared for a career in the legal field.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Interns will be expected to attend court trials and hearings for both criminal and civil cases. Discuss cases privately with the Judge. Research and write memoranda. Read various case law relating to cases before the court. Attend scheduled tours at various law enforcement facilities. Assist with administrative work. Interns are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner throughout the internship. Performs related work as required. (Position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed or supervised.)
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The internship position will be open to any high school, college, or law student interested in pursuing a career in the legal field. The internship will be temporary and will be conducted during hours that court is in session, along with other hours as assigned.
