Job Description
Category Schools - Visually Impaired Teacher Job Type Contract Empower students with visual impairments to thrive academically and personally in an engaging contract opportunity based near Portsmouth, VA. This position serves a diverse caseload of approximately 20 K-12 students, providing essential itinerant support across the district. You'll collaborate closely with an existing virtual TVI to ensure continuity and depth of services, while having opportunities to travel between schools and build strong relationships with students and teams.
Qualifications:
Valid Virginia Department of Education License with Visually Impaired Students endorsement (required) At least 2 years of recent teaching experience, ideally in visually impaired education Confidence in writing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs Skill in collaborating with related service providers to support comprehensive educational plans Strong communication and organizational skillsPrimary Responsibilities:
Deliver individualized itinerant instruction to students with visual impairments in grades K-12 across district locations Design and implement effective lesson plans tailored to each student's needs, strengths, and IEP goals Collaborate with school staff and the established virtual TVI to maximize resources and support Participate in IEP meetings, progress monitoring, and parent communication Integrate assistive technologies and resources to foster student independence and academic achievement This is a rewarding contract role offering the chance to make a meaningful impact on students' educational journeys.
