Category Assistive Technology Specialist Job Type Contract Step into a meaningful contract role supporting students' access and achievement as an Assistive Technology Specialist and Braillist for the upcoming 26/27 academic year. Located near Lakewood, WA, this opportunity is ideal for professionals experienced in assistive technology and braille transcription, passionate about enhancing educational experiences for visually impaired learners.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
Expertise in assistive technology tools and adaptive equipment for students with visual impairments Proficiency in braille transcription, creation of braille learning materials, and tactile graphics Strong collaboration skills to support educators and multidisciplinary teams Knowledge of current federal and state regulations relating to accessibility in educational settings Experience conducting needs assessments and training for staff, students, and families Relevant certification or coursework in assistive technology and/or braille transcription highly desired Previous work in a school environment preferred
Primary Responsibilities:
Assess student needs and recommend appropriate assistive technology solutions Produce and adapt instructional materials into braille or accessible formats Implement, troubleshoot, and maintain assistive technology devices Directly instruct students in the use of assistive devices and braille literacy Offer training and consultation for school staff on best practices for supporting accessibility Document student progress and coordinate with IEP or 504 teams to ensure accommodations are met Stay abreast of emerging technologies and advancements in the field This contract position places you in a collaborative, student-centered setting where your expertise makes a daily impact. You'll be a key resource ensuring equitable access to education for students with blindness or low vision.
