WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
As a Criminal Justice Technician-Evidence Custodian, you will be managing and maintaining the property and evidence warehouse for the Department of Public Safety (DPS) D Detachment and other divisions and agencies. You will serve as a liaison for property and evidence matters between DPS and other agencies as well as testifying in court and assisting with property and evidence audits. While maintaining chain of custody and in accordance with established policies and procedures, you will systematically and securely receive, document, store, preserve, maintain and release or dispose of property and evidence. As a CJT1 you will be in a training program, learning the above tasks. As a CJT2 you will have achieved full proficiency in chain of custody duties.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT
This position is located in Fairbanks at D Detachment Headquarters. You will be working closely with another CJT/Evidence Custodian in numerous settings, including office, evidence storage inside Post, outside storage and off-site property and evidence storage facilities. Your daily work environments will shift between physical management of evidence and property indoors/outdoors, clean/dirty, large/miniscule, weapons, drugs, jewelry, electronics etc. to computer work with ARMS, APSIN, Digital Evidence, Microsoft Office programs etc. to interactions with the public in customer service aspects returning property, answering questions, advising of procedures and numerous others.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE TECHNICIAN 2

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the 1 or 2 levels, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level of the position. If filled at a lower level, promotion to the higher level will only occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, and the applicant meets the minimum qualifications of the higher job class, and final approval by the supervisor. It is recommended and encouraged that you apply for any level for which you qualify.

BACKGROUND CHECK
This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.

The successful candidate will be required to read, understand, and agree to via signature, an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety to qualify for this position.
