Description of Job About the Work Unit This work unit receives, catalogs, stores and maintains the integrity of evidence, found property, evidentiary evidence and property for safekeeping. - office work including data entry About the Job The Evidence section is responsible for the preservation of all found property, safekeeping of property, and evidence coming into the possession of the Colorado State Patrol.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights NOTE:
To be considered for this position, you must meet one of the following options for consideration. Minimum Qualifications Three years experience researching confidential databases, cataloging information and performing clerical responsibilities.OR Education and Experience:
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience researching confidential databases, cataloging information and performing clerical responsibilities equal to three (3) years. If education is substituted for work experience, an unofficial transcript of the relevant education must be provided with your application. Required Competencies Ability to work in a high volume environment. Ability to accurately and efficiently enter data. Strong attention to details. Ability to handle repetitive processes. Ability to focus. Strong organizational skills. Ability to perform active work. Preferred Qualifications Experience with evidence handling in a law enforcement agency. Experience handling records, evidence, property control, inventory, or chain-of-custody procedures. Experience handling sensitive or confidential information in a professional setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite or similar software for recordkeeping, documentation and communication. Conditions of Employment Must be Colorado resident at the time of application. A valid current driver's license is required to perform the duties of this position. This position is required to drive a state-owned vehicle to gather evidence from temporary facilities within the region. Position drives a state fleet vehicle to crash scenes and local offices to transport evidence. This position is requires the ability to move up to 40-50 pounds from one location to the next occasionally. This position frequently lifts and carries items or containers that may be heavy or require lifting above the shoulders. This position also requires frequent walking, pulling and pushing. This position is required to be available to respond to the central evidence facility to assist troopers in booking large quantities of evidence. This position may be required to handle, package and store evidence items that could be considered hazardous. Drug testing equipment contains caustic materials or acids as do the dangerous drugs themselves. Although infrequent, it is possible for this position to have direct exposure to hazardous materials. This position is required to obtain Certification through the International Association of Property and Evidence (IAPE) or another approved course in the handling, preservation and storing of evidence according to industry standards. This must be obtained within 18 months of the start date. Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a polygraph exam, driving history, fingerprint based criminal history search and a drug test.
