Provides clerical and technical laboratory support to enable the forensic laboratories to function effectively while adhering to standard operating procedures and safety guidelines. Will assume the role of an Evidence Technician (20001521) as needed and will adhere to objectives of that position. Provide clerical support to the forensic laboratories Completes duties as assigned by the various laboratory supervisors and technical leaders Review submitting agency documentation for accuracy Assist with response to requests for records File or digitally manage chain-of-custody records and/or other case-related records for the various scientific disciplines Assist with preparation of laboratory records for archival to salt mines Provide technical laboratory support to the forensic laboratories Receive autopsy evidence from the pathology division Properly label autopsy specimens received by assigning case and item numbers to each exhibit Bag toxicology specimens for long term storage following completion of analysis Dispose of toxicology specimens and any associated physical evidence per SOP Prepare samples for reference laboratory testing Assist with inventory management Washes and disinfects Toxicology labware for use in casework applications General laboratory cleaning Assume the role of Evidence Technician as needed and adhere to the essential job functions of that position: Perform evidence exchanges with external/contributing agencies (and subsets of this duty) Performs evidence exchanges internally with scientific staff (and subsets of this duty) Performs data entry, operational, and administrative duties within the evidence section (and subsets of these duties).
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications; Six months experience in a laboratory setting, or any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Associate's degree or bachelor's degree in a science or criminal justice. IAPE Certified Evidence Specialist or equivalent. Applicants have rights under Federal Employment Laws.
