Job Description
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Criminal Intelligence Division is seeking two Criminal Information Analyst/Investigators. These positions will perform a wide range of analysis of information relating to criminal activities in support of law enforcement and criminal investigations. Location and hours:
These positions are on-site at the 625 Building located at 625 South 4th Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55415. The primary work schedule is variable 8-hour shifts, Monday through Saturday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. but can include occasional overtime, evenings, and holidays. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.
About these position types:
This is a full-time benefit earning position. These positions are internally classified as an Investigator. Click here to view the job classification specification. In these positions, you will: Research, compile, and analyze map crime trends and patterns; detect and describe tactical, administrative, strategic links and trends in crimes; perform crime analysis in support of law enforcement efforts. Assist patrol, investigative, and administrative staff in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention, intervention, and suppression of criminal activities. Provide investigative case support to assist in criminal investigations. Act as a liaison to all Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and neighboring law enforcement crime analysis details; respond to inquiries from law enforcement and other agencies. Gather, research, and analyze information to develop criminal information products.
Need to have:
One of the following: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, business/public administration, sociology, psychology, or a closely related field, and one year of investigation, law enforcement, or military investigator experience. Associate's degree in one of the above fields, and three years of investigation, law enforcement or military investigator experience. Five years of investigation, law enforcement or military investigator experience.

In military intelligence, including counterdrug analyst experience. Working with crime or trend analysis. Analyzing and interpreting complex statistical data and creating graphic representations of data; specifically, in an investigative or law enforcement setting. Collecting, researching, and interpreting data and information from a variety of sources and preparing reports using reporting tools. Creating queries to extract data from relational databases. Presenting data to groups in various settings. Performing statistical or crime analysis in an investigative or law enforcement setting. Working with federal, state, and local law enforcement databases. Working with Arc GIS Mapping, I2 analytical software, and Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
Knowledge in:
Using data formatting and reporting tools in Microsoft Excel (especially use of sort function, filters, pivot tables, and data duplication). Researching and data analysis methods and techniques.
Ability to:
Collect, assemble, analyze, evaluate evidence, statistics, and other pertinent information to draw logical conclusions to solve crimes. Apply problem solving skills and make data driven recommendations for action.
