Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and assessments of patients who have experienced trauma or assault, ensuring meticulous documentation of findings. Collect and preserve forensic evidence following strict protocols to maintain chain of custody and support legal investigations. Provide emotional support and crisis intervention to victims, demonstrating empathy and professionalism throughout the examination process. Collaborate with law enforcement, attorneys, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate accurate documentation and reporting for legal purposes. Educate patients on medical treatments, follow-up care, and available resources related to trauma recovery and victim advocacy. Stay current with forensic nursing standards, trauma care practices, and relevant legal requirements through ongoing training and professional development. Skills Proven experience in emergency medicine, critical care, or hospital settings with familiarity in trauma assessment and acute pain management. Strong knowledge of forensic evidence collection techniques, including suturing, specimen collection/processing, and aseptic technique. Excellent patient assessment skills combined with a compassionate approach to working with individuals experiencing trauma or developmental disabilities. Ability to perform detailed physical examinations, including vital signs measurement, wound documentation, and injury assessment. Effective communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in diverse healthcare environments such as hospital emergency rooms, outpatient clinics, or inpatient units.
