Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
This part-time position is a hybrid remote and in-person position. This position will be able to make first contact with victims remotely but will be expected to be present in person at Court proceedings on Tuesdays, with some hearings requiring in-person presence on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Victim Advocate is responsible for providing crisis intervention services, advising victims of their Constitutional and statutory rights, and serving as a liaison between victims and the Town Prosecutor.

The duties and responsibilities are subject to change as the needs of the Town and requirements of the position change Establish initial telephonic or e-mail contact with victims of misdemeanor crimes that occur within the Town limits after receiving case information from the Department of Law Provides crisis intervention services and assists victims by referring them to organizations that can assist them in meeting their immediate needs Provide information to victims concerning their Constitutional and statutory rights and procedures of the criminal justice system Maintain contact with victims and accompany them to court to provide support and information Serve as liaison between victim and Town Prosecutor and consult with Town Prosecutor regarding trial preparation and victim's input Assist victims in applying for criminal restitution and possible compensation through Pima County Crime Victim Compensation Board Document client contacts and referrals and send monthly report to Prosecution Services Manager/Town Prosecutor Maintains appropriate security and confidentiality of information created and/or encountered in the performance of assigned duties Communicates effectively with Prosecution Services Manager, Criminal Paralegal and Legal Assistant regarding victims
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Basic criminal law and procedure and its application to crime victims Crime Victims' Rights Arizona Rules of Criminal Procedure and Arizona Constitution regarding redaction of victim identifying information High level of emotional intelligence and empathy Available community resources for social, medical and economic services for victims of crime Ability to utilize current crisis intervention model with victims Working quickly and calmly in emotionally charged situations Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university AND one year of experience in Victim Advocacy or other closely related field Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation, including fingerprints
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual (Spanish) Three (3) years of experience in a prosecution office or law enforcement office while interacting with and providing services to victims of crime; Level 1 Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card
REQUIREMENTS
Ability to obtain and maintain pertinent certifications to access required databases and software packages to perform essential duties Maintain confidentiality of files and contents of interactions with victims Exercise high emotional intelligence and provide outstanding customer service for victims of misdemeanor offenses This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the Town of Sahuarita and the employee and is subject to change by the Town of Sahuarita as needed.
