Job Summary Join our dedicated law enforcement team as a Police Detective (Corporal), where you'll play a vital role in safeguarding the community through proactive investigations and crime prevention. As a key member of the police force, you will utilize your expertise in criminal investigation, surveillance, and data analysis to solve complex cases, prevent fraud, and ensure justice is served. This is entry level supervisory patrol and investigative work in law enforcement in a local city government municipality maintaining order and protecting life and property by enforcing local, state, or federal laws and ordinances; drives vehicle and patrols assigned areas to detect and deter crime and enforce laws; respond to calls for service, alarms, disturbances, accidents, and emergencies; interview victims, witnesses, and suspects; gather and preserve evidence; record facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities; provide public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations; maintain proficiency in defensive tactics, firearms, emergency driving, and first aid; transport or escort inmates and defendants to courtrooms, jails, attorneys' offices, or medical facilities and perform related duties as needed or at the request of the supervisor and/or Chief of Police. Duties Conduct thorough criminal investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing case information to solve crimes efficiently. Perform surveillance operations to monitor suspects, gather intelligence, and support ongoing investigations. Detect and prevent fraud through detailed data collection, analysis, and collaboration with other law enforcement agencies. Prepare detailed reports documenting investigation findings, case progress, and evidence for legal proceedings. Collaborate with patrol officers, forensic teams, and external agencies to coordinate investigations and share critical information. Participate in community outreach efforts to build trust and promote crime prevention initiatives. Maintain accurate records of all investigative activities and ensure compliance with departmental protocols. Skills Strong knowledge of law enforcement procedures, criminal laws, and investigative techniques. Proven experience in fraud prevention and detection methods. Skilled in surveillance tactics using various tools and technology. Excellent analytical skills for data collection, case analysis, and problem-solving. Effective report writing abilities to clearly document investigations and findings. Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail during complex cases. Exceptional communication skills for interviewing witnesses and collaborating with team members. CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE
- College coursework or degree in criminal justice (or a related field) is preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must have a minimum of (2) years of progressively responsible experience as a sworn police officer OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must meet physical and psychological requirements.
- Must be APOST certified and hold a valid Alabama driver license.
Pay:
$43,800.00 - $45,000.00 per year
