Job Description:
•The Department does NOT sponsor Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Optional Practical Training (OPT) (Form I-983) or non-immigrant work visas for these positions.•This is an armed law enforcement position and the incumbent will be appointed as a Special Deputy State Sheriff. This position is based in Lincoln at the Nebraska Lottery Headquarters. Pay range is $25.58 - $37.80 per hour; wage is commensurate with experience, within agency fiscal constraints, if approved. All duty equipment will be provided, including a cell phone. Conducts law enforcement and background investigations for purposes of determining whether or not criminal violations of laws administered by the Nebraska Department of Revenue have occurred. This is a great opportunity to get away from traditional around-the-clock law enforcement duties and settle into a relaxed 9-to-5 background investigation office job with holidays and weekends off while still maintaining your law enforcement commission. Enforces statutes pertaining to the Nebraska Lottery, Charitable Gaming (such as Keno, Raffles, and Pickle Cards), Skill Devices, Income Tax, Sales Tax, and other tax programs; performs related work as assigned.
Requirements/ Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Coursework/training in criminal justice, law enforcement, police science, criminology, or related field and experience conducting criminal investigations.
Other :
Active law enforcement certification required or the ability to have certification renewed through NLETC reactivation training. The candidate will be required to submit a

Authority to Release Information for each current and prior law enforcement employer.
Knowledge of:
rules of evidence, laws of arrest, search and seizure, and basic court procedures; criminal investigation techniques and procedures; principles of identification, preservation, and presentation of evidence; accounting and bookkeeping principles; automated record systems; crimes such as fraud, embezzlement, extortion, bribery, larceny, tax evasion, conspiracy to defraud, gambling, or racketeering activities.
Skills in:
persuasive communication and investigative interviews; analyzing, preparing, and presenting evidence under criminal proof standards in written and oral testimony; planning and organizing work; maintaining effective relationships with government officials, police units, gaming and lottery industry personnel, and the general public; preparing clear, concise written reports; applying the steps of due process.
Ability to:
conduct extensive investigations which may result in criminal prosecution; analyze, prepare, and present evidence under criminal proof standards in writing and oral testimony; review evidentiary leads and select and investigate leads effectively; establish and maintain effective relationships with government officials, police units, agency staff, and the general public; recognize pertinent resources in order to pursue an investigation to a conclusion; communicate both orally and in writing; clearly communicate the position of the agency; analyze written documents for compliance with laws and regulations.
