State Investigator - Internet Crimes Against Children (NMDOJ #10115208) State of New Mexico - 3.5 Albuquerque, NM Job Details Full-time $26.57 - $39.86 an hour 5 hours ago Qualifications Driver's License Full Job Description Posting Details The Attorney General and the Department of Justice, collectively referred to as the New Mexico Department of Justice (NMDOJ), represent and defend the legal interests and sovereignty of the people of the State of New Mexico. The NMDOJ exercises the responsibilities delegated by the New Mexico Constitution, statutes enacted by the New Mexico Legislature, and the common law. The Attorney General has primary authority for enforcement of consumer protection and antitrust laws, prosecution of criminal appeals and some complex white-collar crimes, training and certification of peace officers, and most natural resource and environmental matters. Additionally, the NMDOJ works concurrently with New Mexico's 13 district attorneys and other local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to carry out its criminal justice responsibilities and activities. The Special Investigations Division of the NMDOJ is comprised of separate units, each handling investigations in its own specialty area. The Division utilizes expert special agents for major criminal investigations across the state as directed by the Attorney General, including violent crimes such as child abuse, homicide, sexual assaults, and guardianship cases. The Special Investigations Division also investigates government corruption, fraud, economic and financial crimes, and forced child labor, often working in cooperation with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. This is in addition to standard leave accrual for employees. Why does the job exist? The Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force within the NMDOJ is a collaborative effort of law enforcement agencies throughout the State of New Mexico with a mission is to locate, track, and capture Internet child sexual predators and Internet child pornographers. The ICAC State Investigator will work as the primary CyberTip Analyst and be responsible for downloading (which will include, but not limited to Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), Child Sexual Tourism, Extra Familial Abuse and Human Trafficking if needed), analysis and management of CyberTip reports received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Under general supervision, the ICAC State Investigator will reconcile or dispose of complaints, inquiries or violations of laws, regarding internet crimes against children. How does it get done? The ICAC State Investigator will gather information from social media, police records, various databases, telephone and other communication records, and other public and law enforcement information sources. The State Investigator will evaluate the various information, verify its accuracy, and transform it into viable intelligence to assist law enforcement. The ICAC State Investigator will also prepare investigative reports for use by ICAC personnel and prosecutors, as well as testify in court proceedings concerning the investigations. The ICAC State Investigator will also be required to assist in Search Warrants, which will include, but not limited to, handling evidence, documenting and testifying in court proceedings. The ICAC State Investigator will attend periodic training under the auspices of the ICAC program to keep abreast of investigative techniques, developing technologies and broaden the State Investigator's knowledge, skill and abilities. The position may also require overnight travel and may require periodic presentations to law enforcement and the general public. The ICAC State Investigator will conduct other duties as needed. Minimum Qualification Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education. Employment Requirements Candidate must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico; or must obtain a Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of hire as a condition of continued employment. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Working Conditions Office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer usage with ongoing exposure to visually graphic Child Sexual Exploitation material in a confined work setting.
