  • 6/21/2026 Key Responsibilities Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position:
Investigations:
Lead and manage high-profile and complex investigations that will involve threats investigations, and may involve homicides, property crimes, officer-involved critical incidents, cybercrime, sexual assault, gang investigations, narcotics investigations, public corruption, fraud, forgery, and violent crimes.
Collaboration and Coordination:
Work in conjunction with other LEB agents and Utah Department of Corrections (UDC) officers to conduct criminal investigations and implement intelligence-led policing strategies. Communicate effectively with UDC Administration and the Threat Management Unit (TMU), closing the loop on actions taken.
Operational Planning:
Plan, prepare, and execute search and arrest warrants, including operational planning and case debriefing.
Interagency Coordination:
Coordinate with local, state, and federal police agencies on investigations and related activities within their areas of responsibility.
Victim Services Coordination:
Collaborate with victim service programs to ensure comprehensive support for victims. Communicate regularly with victims, providing updates and guidance.
Professional Representation:
Represent the Utah Department of Corrections (UDC) professionally at trainings, seminars, and other law enforcement meetings. Meet with UDC Leadership, employees and offenders to discuss threats and provide guidance.
Training and Education:
Provide training on Threat Assessment and Management along with criminal investigations to law enforcement personnel, stakeholders and community members.
Networking:
Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support investigative efforts and broader UDC objectives.
Case Management:
Manage a case tracking sheet, and create a quarterly recap that includes new cases, updates, and year-to-date (YTD) statistics.
Uniformed Presence:
Participate in uniformed shifts at the Prison as necessary, to maintain visibility and ensure public safety.
Qualifications The Ideal Candidate:
This role is exempt from the seniority-based transfer policy and is available as a lateral transfer for current UDC Agents. The candidate must reside within 50 miles of the UDC Administration Building. Experience in conducting dynamic and complex investigations from inception to adjudication. Proficiency in obtaining search warrants and subpoenas. Expertise in advanced interview and investigative techniques. Availability for on-call and after-hours call-outs. Experience using confidential informants, conducting undercover operations, and employing other investigative techniques in complex investigations. Knowledge and experience in proper evidence collection procedures, including related training and education. Ability to provide instruction and training on advanced law enforcement procedures and techniques. Strong relationship-building skills with both internal and external stakeholders. Preference Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in Threat Assessment and Management, experience collaborating with our state's high-level stakeholders, a strong background in investigative work, proficiency in facilities security assessments, and a proven track record in victim safety planning.
