Cafeteria Monitor (Part Time)
QUALIFICATIONS
(R) if required or (P) if preferred Bilingual (Spanish/English). (P) Prior experience working with children in a school or similar setting. (R) Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with children and adults. (R) Ability to remain calm, firm, and respectful when handing student behavior or conflicts. (R) Dependable, punctual, and able to follow a daily schedule. (R) Willingness to participate in school/district training related to child safety, behavior, and emergency protocols. (R) SERV Safe Certification (R) Identity Verified Prints Clearance Card (R) CPR/First Aid Certification (R) Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL
To ensure a safe, orderly, and respectful cafeteria environment by supervising students during lunch periods, promoting positive behavior, and supporting adherence to school and federal nutrition program standards. The Cafeteria Lunch Monitor assists with seating, monitors student conduct, encourages positive social interactions, and helps maintain cleanliness. This role works closely with school staff to help enforce school rules and make sure both students and staff follow the guidelines of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES
Supervise students in the cafeteria to ensure safety and appropriate behavior Monitor noise levels and student interactions to promote a calm, respectful atmosphere Address and report any behavioral or safety concerns to appropriate staff Support cleaning and sanitizing of tables and dining areas between lunch periods Encourage students to follow school rules and practice good manners Provide basic first aid when necessary or notify appropriate staff Ability to stay alert and focused in a busy, noisy environment with frequent interruptions Capacity to monitor and manage student behavior calmly and consistently Strong observation skills to identify potential safety issues or conflicts quickly Patience, emotional self-control, and the ability to stay positive and composed under stress Ability to multi-task effectively, such as supervising students while managing cleanup or transitions Must be able to recognize and report concerns (e.g., injuries, bullying, or policy violations) to appropriate personnel Performs other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching to assist students or clean up spills Occasional lifting or moving of light objects Ability to work in a noisy, high-energy environment with large groups of children May be exposed to minor cleaning used in food service or sanitation The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a school cafeteria with high volume of students during lunch periods The environment is often noisy and fast-paced, with children eating, talking, and moving around Requires the ability to remain on your feet, active, and alert during assigned duty periods Regular interaction with students requires patience, kindness, and clear communication Required to assist with cleanup tasks, such as wiping down tables and helping with waste disposal The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a 10-month classified hourly position. Salary is based upon the Classified Hourly Placement Schedule as established by the Governing Board. Employee benefits in accordance with Board policies. Salary Grade 1
EVALUATION:
This job's performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on personnel evaluation.
