Position Summary The Hall Monitor - Male/Female Student Support is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, orderly, and respectful learning environment by supervising students throughout the school campus during the instructional day. This position provides supervision in hallways, common areas, cafeterias, entrances, restrooms, and other assigned locations while assisting with student safety, behavior management, and school security. The Hall Monitor serves as a positive role model, builds constructive relationships with students, supports school administrators and instructional staff, and assists in promoting a positive school climate. This position may be assigned responsibilities involving supervision of female students where appropriate to support student privacy and school operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Campus Supervision Monitor hallways, stairwells, cafeterias, courtyards, restrooms, parking areas, and other assigned campus locations. Supervise students before school, during class transitions, lunch periods, after school, and during school activities. Ensure students report to class promptly and remain in authorized areas during instructional time. Monitor campus entrances and exits to support school security. Assist with arrival and dismissal procedures. Observe student behavior and intervene appropriately to maintain a safe and orderly environment. Report unauthorized visitors or suspicious activity immediately. Student Behavior and Discipline Enforce school rules, student code of conduct, and dress code consistently and professionally. Redirect inappropriate behavior using positive behavior intervention strategies. Assist in de-escalating student conflicts and preventing disruptions. Escort students to classrooms, administrative offices, counselors, or the health clinic when necessary. Report serious disciplinary incidents to administrators promptly. Support implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and restorative practices. Male/Female Student Support Assist with supervision of male/female students in designated areas when appropriate. Support administrators during student conferences, investigations, or wellness checks involving female students. Assist with maintaining student privacy and dignity during situations requiring same-gender supervision. Provide mentorship and positive encouragement while maintaining professional boundaries. School Safety and Security Conduct routine patrols throughout the school campus. Report unsafe conditions, maintenance concerns, security risks, or emergencies immediately. Assist during emergency drills, lockdowns, evacuations, severe weather events, and other emergency procedures. Monitor visitor access and campus security protocols. Assist with crowd control during assemblies, testing, athletic events, and extracurricular activities. Student Support Build positive, professional relationships with students. Encourage respectful behavior, responsibility, and accountability. Assist students in locating classrooms and school resources. Observe and report concerns related to student safety, mental health, bullying, or abuse in accordance with mandatory reporting requirements. Serve as a positive role model for student conduct and character. Collaboration Work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, counselors, school resource officers, social workers, and support staff. Participate in faculty meetings, safety meetings, and professional development. Assist with school-wide activities, testing, field trips, and special events. Maintain effective communication regarding student concerns and campus safety. Administrative Responsibilities Complete incident reports accurately and in a timely manner. Maintain logs of daily activities and campus observations. Document behavioral incidents according to school procedures. Maintain confidentiality of student and personnel information. Perform additional operational duties assigned by the Principal or Dean of Students. Professional Responsibilities Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and sound judgement. Maintain a professional appearance consistent with school expectations. Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality. Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills. Participate in required professional development related to school safety, student supervision, crisis intervention, and behavior management. Support the Charter School's mission, vision, and core values. Perform other duties as assigned. Compliance Responsibilities The Hall Monitor shall comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including but not limited to: Florida Statutes Florida Administrative Code Florida Charter School Law (Chapter 1002, Florida Statutes) Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act Title VI of the Civil Rights Act Title VII of the Civil Rights Act Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 Florida Jeffrey Johnston Stand Up for All Students Act (Anti-Bullying) Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Requirements School Safety and Emergency Procedures Charter School Governing Board Policies Minimum Qualifications Education High school diploma or GED required. Associate's degree or higher in Education, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field preferred. Experience Required Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth, students, education, school security, customer service, recreation, military, law enforcement, or a related field. Preferred Experience working in a K-12 school or charter school. Experience supervising middle or high school students. Experience in behavior management, conflict resolution, or school safety. Preferred Qualifications CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment). Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or equivalent de-escalation training. Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of school safety procedures and student supervision techniques. Ability to establish positive relationships while maintaining appropriate authority. Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Strong observational and decision-making skills. Excellent verbal and written communication. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email, and school information systems. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to: Stand and walk continuously throughout the workday. Patrol multiple campus locations. Lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as necessary. Respond quickly to emergencies. Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Maintain visual and auditory awareness of assigned areas. Work Environment Work is performed throughout the school campus, including hallways, classrooms, cafeterias, outdoor areas, parking lots, and common spaces. The position requires frequent interaction with students, staff, parents, and visitors and may involve responding to student behavioral issues and emergency situations. Required Pre-Employment Screening Employment is contingent upon successful completion of: Level II Fingerprint Background Screening in accordance with Florida Statutes. Completion of all required school safety, compliance, and student supervision training.
