This role plays a key part in ensuring that patient records accurately reflect severity of illness, risk of mortality, and overall complexity of care. You will collaborate closely with physicians, nursing staff, case management, and coding teams to improve documentation quality, support regulatory compliance, and ensure appropriate reimbursement and reporting.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient medical records
- Ensure documentation accurately reflects severity of illness and medical necessity
- Support accurate ICD coding and clinical validation of diagnoses and comorbidities
- Identify documentation gaps and query providers for clarification and improvement
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical teams to enhance documentation quality
- Educate providers on documentation best practices and compliance standards
- Apply knowledge of pathophysiology, medications, and disease processes in clinical review
- Ensure adherence to federal/state regulations, coding guidelines, and payer requirements
- Serve as a resource and change agent for documentation improvement initiatives Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Clinical Documentation Integrity (ICDI)
- At least 2 years in an inpatient CDI specialist role
- 12 months of recent production CDI experience (within last year)
- High School Diploma or GED required Certifications (Required - one or more)
- CDIP or CCDS
- RHIT or RHIA
- RN or RRT
- CCS or CCS-P
- International or Domestic Medical Degree (accepted)
- LOCALS accepted at a different pay
