Job Description

SSA Marine is a Seattle-based global operator of marine terminals and stevedoring services, specializing in the movement and handling of cargo across major ports worldwide. As part of Carrix, the company manages container, bulk, and breakbulk operations, as well as intermodal and rail logistics that connect port activity to inland transportation networks. SSA Marine supports the efficient flow of goods across global supply chains, working with shipping lines, ports, and logistics partners to move a wide range of cargo, including containers, automobiles, and industrial materials.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
The Document Controller supports SSA Marine's centralized Engineering Department by establishing and maintaining document management standards, processes, and systems across the engineering and capital project portfolio. This role is foundational and strategic, responsible not only for document control execution but also for helping define and implement the Engineering Department's future Document Management System (DMS/EDMS). The position ensures consistency, traceability, and governance of engineering documents across all project phases, from early FEL development through execution and close-out. Manage day-to-day document control activities for Engineering projects, including document receipt, registration, version control, distribution, and archiving. Ensure proper document naming, numbering, revision control, and approval workflows. Maintain document registers and transmittal logs. Support document control during FEL, design development, procurement, construction, and close-out phases. Support the Engineering leadership team in evaluating, selecting, and implementing a Document Management System (DMS/EDMS). Help define document control standards, procedures, workflows, and governance rules for the Engineering Department. Develop and maintain document control templates, metadata structures, and filing conventions. Assist with system configuration, testing, rollout, and user support. Develop and maintain Engineering document control procedures aligned with project governance and FEL stage-gates. Ensure document readiness and completeness for stage-gate reviews and approvals. Support audits, reviews, and compliance checks related to engineering documentation. Promote consistency across projects and external engineering partners. Coordinate with Project Managers, engineers, consultants, and contractors regarding document requirements and workflows. Provide guidance and training to internal users on document control processes and tools. Maintain and update the Engineering web portal. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to document management efficiency and quality. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Technical degree or diploma in Administration, Information Management, Document Control, Engineering, or related discipline. 3-7 years of experience in document control within engineering, construction, or capital project environments. Experience with electronic document management systems (EDMS) and collaboration platforms (SharePoint, Aconex, ProjectWise, etc.). Experience supporting the setup or implementation of a
DMS/EDMS
strongly preferred. Familiarity with engineering deliverables, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of document control standards, transmittals, revision control, and archiving best practices Proficiency with common document management platforms and MS Office tools. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Spanish proficiency is a plus. Pay:
$90,000.00 - $105,000.00 per hour
