We're seeking a detail-oriented Software Documentation Specialist who can translate complex software capabilities into clear, usable documentation for both internal and external audiences. You'll partner closely with software engineers and product stakeholders, attend development meetings, and produce polished, publication-ready documentation that meets Section 508 accessibility requirements. You're equally comfortable shaping content from scratch, improving existing materials, and enforcing documentation standards that make systems easier to adopt and maintain. •Contingent upon contract being awarded•

PTO KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Create, edit, and reformat software/user documentation to support application delivery, operations, and end-user adoption. Attend and actively participate in development meetings to gather requirements, track changes, and ensure documentation remains accurate and current. Produce documentation in a publicly presentable format suitable for posting to public-facing websites and distribution channels. Ensure all documentation deliverables are Section 508 compliant , including accessible structure, formatting, and attachments. Develop and maintain documentation standards, templates, style guides, and versioning practices. Collaborate with developers, analysts, and support staff to document workflows, business rules, user tasks, and troubleshooting steps. Manage documentation tasks and reviews using team collaboration tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, MIRO) and maintain traceability from features/changes to updated content. Perform editorial quality control (clarity, consistency, completeness, grammar, accessibility checks) and incorporate reviewer feedback efficiently. Support release activities by preparing updated release notes, user guides, and "what's new" content aligned to deployments.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining documentation for software applications (web applications preferred), including user guides, SOPs, FAQs, job aids, and release notes. Working knowledge of Section 508 / accessibility practices for documents and web-published content (including headings, alt text, tables, reading order, link text, and accessible PDFs). Ability to rapidly learn technical concepts and translate them into clear, task-based instructions for non-technical audiences. Strong writing and editing skills with an emphasis on accuracy, plain language, and consistency. Experience collaborating with software delivery teams and working from agile artifacts (user stories, acceptance criteria, change logs). Familiarity with documentation collaboration/workflow tools such as JIRA , Confluence , and visual collaboration tools such as MIRO (or equivalent). Comfortable working with multiple SMEs, handling competing priorities, and managing documentation backlogs.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Communications, Information Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field or equivalent relevant professional experience in software documentation and accessibility-compliant publishing.
