Job Description

Job Description Overview Our client is seeking a Field Engineer / Document Controls professional to support a large federal healthcare construction project at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. This is a net new, early-to-mid career role focused on RFI tracking, document control, and submittals coordination, playing a critical role in maintaining accurate project documentation and supporting compliance with USACE and federal construction standards. This position is ideal for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and strong with document structure and tracking systems. Key Responsibilities Document Control & Submittals
  • Maintain and control project documentation including drawings, specifications, submittals, and correspondence
  • Ensure proper version control and document distribution per contract requirements
  • Support submittal tracking and coordination using project systems (Procore / RMS) RFI Management
  • Prepare, log, and track RFIs
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, field teams, and design teams for timely responses
  • Maintain accurate RFI logs within PMIS platforms As-Built Documentation
  • Assist with development and maintenance of as-built drawings
  • Coordinate with field teams to ensure timely and accurate updates
  • Support project closeout documentation PMIS Administration (Project Management Systems)
  • Maintain project data in systems such as Procore and
USACE RMS/QCS
  • Track RFIs, submittals, daily reports, and deficiencies
  • Ensure compliance with government documentation and reporting requirements Field & Quality Control Support
  • Assist with daily reporting and field coordination activities
  • Support QA/QC processes aligned with USACE standards
  • Participate in inspections, deficiency tracking, and issue resolution Meetings & Coordination
  • Attend project meetings and maintain meeting minutes

  • 2-5 years of construction experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in construction, building technology, or related field (or trade school certificate)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage documentation, file structures, and tracking systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
  • ASHE Healthcare Construction Certification (HCC) ○ Must obtain within 30 days (company-paid)
  • Experience with USACE or federal construction projects (even 1+ year is valuable)
  • Experience with Procore or similar project management systems
  • Familiarity with government documentation processes (RMS/QCS)
