Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Tribal Administrator, the Environmental Director manages all Tribal EPA grant operations to ensure that Tribal goals and grant deliverables are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees EPA grant funding requirements to include developing budgets, work plans, and grant proposals. The Director will also oversee all environmental staff to measure their performance to grant standards and Tribal personnel standards. Other duties include; 1. Plans, organizes, controls, integrates and evaluates the work of the department; with subordinate staff, develops, implements and monitors work plans to achieve the department mission, goals and performance measures; participates in the development of and monitors performance against the department's budget. 2. Provides leadership and works to develop and retain highly competent, service-oriented staff through selection, compensation, training and day-to-day management practices that support the Fort Independence Indian Community of Paiute's mission, objectives and service expectations; provides leadership and participates in programs and activities that promote workplace diversity and a positive employee relations environment. 3. Manages, oversees and participates in performing environmental field investigative and compliance work and special studies requiring a high level of technical expertise and knowledge; plans, organizes and manages site environmental assessments and field investigations; plans, manages, directs field sampling programs. 4. Develops and manages consultant contracts; oversees work of consultants to ensure contract terms are met; monitors work programs and schedules to ensure timely project completion; reviews and approves invoices. 5. Provides Inventory control over all equipment, vehicles and buildings under the Environmental Department. 6. Identifies new funding sources according to the Tribe's goals. 7. Attends quarterly meetings, trainings and travel as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Educational requirements for this position are a minimum of 4 years of college with a degree in Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS). Additional training in the environmental fields is recommended. Five or more years of related experience, with an emphasis on new program development, program management and technical field experience. Successful record of applying for and receiving grants. Maintain key relationships with the EPA and other federal, state and local agencies, including relationships with other Tribal environmental departments within the EPA's Region 9; Solve complex problems, provide strong influential management; Have a considerable professional network and to establish trust and credibility with employees, Tribal members and Tribal Leaders; Provide growth opportunities through new funding sources; and successfully pass a drug and alcohol screen and submit to routine random testing as required.Pay:
