Jog Road, WPB 35124 Performs independent environmental field and office work in the Environmental Enhancement and Restoration Division related to planning, coordinating, implementing, and administering complex environmental and regulatory programs related to sea turtle and manatee conservation and protection. Assists with biological and environmental monitoring associated with agreements, contracts, permits, management plans, and environmental codes, including data collection, data entry, data quality assurance/quality control, report writing, editing, invoice and bill processing, and deliverable tracking. Performs technical and administrative work supporting ERM's sea turtle and manatee protection programs; prepares and reviews Geographical Information System (GIS)-based maps, technical plans, and environmental data for permitting activities; enters, manages and maintains data within environmental databases and ArcGIS Pro systems or accompanying applications. Conducts environmental inspections and field assessments of natural areas, environmental enhancement sites, and coastal habitats; Completes daytime and nighttime sea turtle lighting compliance inspections and site visits to evaluate compliance with County, State, and Federal environmental regulations. Conducts manatee aerial surveys via helicopter and processes manatee spatial and biological data. Oversees vegetation assessments related to seagrape trimming agreements and coastal habitat management activities. Reviews site plans, surveys, and other land development documents related to sea turtle and manatee conservation, environmental permitting, habitat protection, and regulatory compliance. Gathers and analyzes environmental and biological data to support guidance regarding environmental regulations, code compliance, permitting requirements, and conservation initiatives. Monitors ecosystems and environmental enhancement projects to initiate enforcement and permitting activities as needed. Performs file management, database maintenance, environmental monitoring, technical documentation, and basic data analysis to support program operations and regulatory compliance. Facilitates public outreach and stakeholder coordination by communicating environmental code and rule compliance requirements and providing recommendations to property owners, contractors, consultants, municipalities, and the public. Assists with developing, producing, and distributing educational and outreach materials and activities supporting sea turtle and manatee protection programs. Participates in public nighttime sea turtle watches, hatch success evaluations, and sea turtle and manatee stranding response. Work is performed with minimum supervision and reviewed through field verification, conferences, and work produced.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following: A Bachelor's Degree in one of the Physical/Natural Sciences, Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture, or Engineering, OR A related Associate's Degree or an unrelated Bachelor's Degree; minimum of two (2) years of related technical/professional experience , OR An Unrelated Associate's Degree; minimum of three (3) years of related technical/professional experience, OR Graduation from high school or equivalent recognized certification; minimum of four (4) years of related technical/professional experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include: Experience with sea turtle lighting compliance and an understanding of local sea turtle lighting codes or ordinances, Sea turtle nesting surveys experience, Experience with sea turtle and marine mammal strandings, Experience creating maps and analyzing data using ArcGIS software, Experience with manatee protection plans or conservation of manatees, Scientific data collection and analysis in coastal systems experience, Experience using MS Word/Excel/ PowerPoint, Experience driving and safely maneuvering trucks with trailers, boats, and ATVs, Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA) diving certification(s) and diving experience in Palm Beach County, Experience with extreme motion in rough seas or during aerial flights, and Experience in aerial surveys for wildlife via helicopter or small plane.
