Job Title:
EMC and Safety Testing Engineer Job Description This role requires the independent performance of EMC and safety testing, interpreting standards, setting up, and executing test plans on telecommunication servers both in the lab and at client sites. Responsibilities Interpret national and international standards to determine compliance requirements for equipment under test (EUT). Review schematics and manufacturing documentation to validate test applicability and project scope. Develop, set up, and execute EMC, safety, and environmental test plans. Configure and operate test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, amplifiers, and surge/ESD equipment. Set up and operate EUT; perform and document minor repairs and troubleshooting as needed. Conduct product testing including electrical safety, environmental, mechanical, and EMC requirements. Follow lab and sample handling procedures, including logging, internal transport, packaging, and shipment. Document test results and apply engineering judgment in accordance with company policy. Serve as a technical reviewer/SME for one or more product categories. Train and mentor junior technical staff. Develop test procedures, fixtures, and standardized report templates. Support accreditation efforts and participate in technical audits. Investigate technical complaints and provide corrective guidance. Perform preliminary design reviews (PDRs) and field labeling activities. Provide technical input for quotations and support complex client projects. Communicate project status and results to clients, sales teams, and internal stakeholders. Represent the company through client presentations and standards/industry committee participation. Understand and follow safety guidelines/procedures as they pertain to testing procedures. Essential Skills 4+ years of direct EMC testing experience. Commitment to 50% travel within a 6-hour driving radius using a company vehicle. Client-interfacing experience/aptitude. Proven problem-solving/troubleshooting experience or aptitude. Additional Skills & Qualifications Applicable Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred; however, EMC testing experience is most important. Familiarity with on-site EMC testing/certification requirements and procedures. Experience with U.S., Canadian, and other International EMC/EMI compliance standards, such as
ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC.
Prior project management experience. Work Environment The position requires 50% travel, with half of the time spent at the lab and the other half traveling to client sites within a 6-hour driving radius. A company credit card is provided for all travel expenses. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with a 40-hour work week. New hires will undergo a ramp-up period, learning lab processes and reporting methods, and will partner with experienced engineers in the lab to start. They will be accompanied by an experienced field engineer during client visits until they are comfortable traveling solo. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Lexington, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $105000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
