Job Description
- Introduction
- IBM is seeking a program manager within IBM's Chief Sustainability Office to support the development and execution of IBM's global chemical management and sustainable materials strategy.
- Your role and responsibilities
- Maintain and update IBM's global chemical and materials management requirements; ensure execution across business units.
- Drive adoption of green chemistry principles and safer alternatives to reduce regulatory risk and environmental impact.
- Support lifecycle risk assessments for high-priority chemicals and identify substitution opportunities.
- Monitor emerging global regulations; assess potential impacts on IBM products and operations; advise business units on compliance readiness.
- Develop and advocate IBM's position on environmental policy, legislation, and standards.
- Leverage internal tools (e.g., Maximo, Safer Materials Advisor, Envizi) to manage chemical assessments, compliance metrics, and sustainability KPIs.
- Contribute to AI-enabled initiatives for chemical usage optimization and predictive compliance monitoring.
- Required technical and professional expertise
- Degree in toxicology, chemistry, or chemical engineering.
- Academic training or experience in chemical management and chemical assessments.
- Strong strategic thinking, data analysis, and project management skills; able to manage multiple priorities and provide sound recommendations to senior leadership.
- Excellent written / oral communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across diverse internal and external teams.
- Highly collaborative, adaptable, and willing to support broader sustainability initiatives aligned with IBM's mission to innovate using advanced technologies.
- Proficiency in databases, IT applications, and common software tools
- Preferred technical and professional experience
- Knowledge of green chemistry, human and environmental health impacts of chemicals, and life cycle assessment of materials.
- Working knowledge of global regulations applicable to materials and chemicals in products [e.g., U.S. Toxic Substances Control Act, EU Directives such as Restriction of Hazardous Substances and Regulation for Registration, Evaluation.
- Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals] and awareness of emerging chemicals of concern, regulatory trends and best available science to identify chemicals of concern.
- Experience with AI-driven tools for chemical optimization and compliance monitoring.
- Familiarity with environmental issues in chip fabrication and manufacturing, including chemical use, waste management, air emissions, water conservation.
