Job Description

CLASS SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting with water quality, air quality, waste management, and chemical management programs, and other tasks as required. The position is required to exercise initiative in applying education and/or skills, work semi-independently, be resourceful and systematic in approach to various assignments and tasks; may be responsible for projects or be part of a project team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
: This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department. Conducts field sampling activities for stormwater and groundwater monitoring programs. Executes laboratory methods to conduct QA/QC analysis and calibrate field equipment. Manages and interprets analytical data and presents results. Performs environmental compliance monitoring duties including technical inspections of equipment, record management, and reviewing work practices. Assists with managing the procurement of hazard chemicals and the safety data sheet program. Coordinates with departments for waste removal and supports waste reduction initiatives. Assists in developing procedures, plans, and SOPs pertaining to environmental compliance activities. Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver's license; Maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance
KNOWLEDGE OF
Environmental field sampling including the use of bailers, sondes, and other standard water quality sampling equipment Federal, state and local regulations regarding environmental compliance Compliance monitoring, data management and recordkeeping Interpreting and presenting analytical results
SKILL IN
Clearly and effectively communicating, negotiating and advocating, both orally and in writing; Use of a variety of computer-based technologies including word processing, and spreadsheets; Establishing and maintaining effective, fair, cooperative, collaborative and respectful relationships with internal and external colleagues, peers, work teams and workgroups; Demonstrated skill in analysis and evaluation; Demonstrated skill in use of independent judgment.
ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Positions in this class typically require: walking, talking, hearing, and seeing.
Medium Work:
exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
