Holders of the Environmental Scientist I position will complete tasks such as: Review, develop, and maintain Kentucky's Administrative Regulations on water quality and water pollution control laws, policies and guidance documents. Support water quality standards review and permitting actions and compile technical information required to evaluate and recommend regulatory actions. Evaluate water quality and biological monitoring data, external scientific research and technical supporting documents, and EPA guidance documents to support the development and maintenance of water quality standards and implementation of the Commonwealth's antidegradation policy and methodology. Respond to inquiries from regulated entities, local governments, federal agencies and the public regarding water quality standards and implementation. Lead and participate in stakeholder engagement meetings and inter- and intra-agency coordination efforts involving water quality standards and related water pollution control actions. Prepare correspondence, briefing materials, presentations and program reports. Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position: Understanding of state and federal environmental regulations, particularly those which support the objectives of the Clean Water Act and implementation of water pollution control programs. Ability to analyze and interpret scientific, technical, and environmental monitoring data. Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports, regulatory documents, and correspondence.
