Full Job Description Job Overview:
This position serves as a mid•to senior-level Project Chemist supporting Environmental Services (EVS) operations, with secondary support to the Environmental Laboratory Services (ELS) program. The role will be primarily aligned with EVS during the current assignment and will transition to a greater focus on ELS upon the return of the current Project Chemist from leave. The Project Chemist will be responsible for supporting environmental sampling and compliance activities, analytical data management, and managing and overseeing industrial waste and oily waste bulk treatment operations, including jar testing, treatment protocol development, and formulation of full-scale treatment approaches. The position requires a combination of field and remote work, with work performed at the Naval Air Station North Island project site at least four (4) days per week.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
. Support operation and compliance of industrial wastewater and oily waste treatment systems, including Bilge and Oily Waste Treatment Facilities (BOWTS) and Industrial Waste and Oily Waste (IWOW) systems. . Perform and/or supervise environmental sampling activities (air, water, soil, and hazardous materials) and ensure proper documentation. . Conduct waste profiling, review analytical data, and apply appropriate waste codes in accordance with regulatory requirements. . Develop and oversee treatment protocols, including tank treatments, jar testing, and waste minimization practices. . Track laboratory analytical data, manage treatment records, and ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation. . Prepare and review work plans, sampling plans, and technical reports; support project documentation and regulatory submittals. . Coordinate with project managers, operators, environmental staff, and external stakeholders, including Navy and local agencies, to ensure compliance and efficient operations. . Support facility maintenance and operations through coordination, troubleshooting, and process improvements. . Assist with regulatory compliance efforts, including notifications, corrective actions, and response to Notices of Violation (NOVs). . Supervise and provide technical guidance to field staff, operators, and laboratory personnel as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
. Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline; advanced degree preferred. . 5 years of relevant experience in environmental chemistry, waste treatment, or laboratory services preferred. . Knowledge of waste characterization, wastewater treatment systems, and environmental sampling practices preferred. . Experience reviewing laboratory analytical reports and supporting environmental compliance programs. . Ability to work independently, take technical direction, and lead tasks as needed within a multidisciplinary team. . Technical writing, organizational, and data management skills. . Valid driver's license with clean driving record. . Must be able to obtain DoD DBIDS required to access the Naval and Marine Corps installations. . OSHA 40-hour
HAZWOPER
certification, or ability to obtain. . Ability to pass APTIM and DoD background checks. . Successful APTIM physical including the drug screen. Work Conditions . Combination of field and remote work, approximately 80% field / 20% remote. . Work will be performed at
NASNI APTIM
project offices, including Building 1606 and M9. Onsite work required at Naval Air Station North Island a minimum of four (4) days per week. . Work will be predominantly in San Diego County and to a lesser extent Imperial County, and Central and Northern CA. . Work may involve outdoor conditions, industrial environments, and handling of hazardous materials. . Traffic onto and off Naval Air Station North Island can be very busy; therefore, project site work can be scheduled early in the day to help avoid afternoon traffic. . Occasional travel may be required. . Ability lift up to 40 pounds.

Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
