The position Technical Specialist 1 performs specialized tasks, methods, procedures, or computations in support of department operations. Serves as department expert in a specific technical field. Performs related duties as required. •In addition to vacancies, within

Developer Services , this list may be used to fill other Technical Specialist 1 positions throughout the Nashville Department of Transportation • The Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure delivers a range of services, and the nearly 400 employees work around the clock to ensure a multimodal system that offers choice and better connects neighborhoods, residents, businesses and visitors to the place that they need and want to go to in a safe manner. These employees are responsible for over 2,200 miles of public roadways and rights-of-way, over 6,000 streets, over 300 bridges, 835 traffic signals and over 1,200 miles of bike/sidewalk lanes and much more. Big events in Nashville consist of CMA Festival, Stanley Cup Finals, Titans games, and any number of special events. These require big preparation and big clean-up, and the Nashville Department of Transportation employees are up for the challenge. Reviews service requests from the public and issues work orders county wide accordingly. May communicate with the public regarding complaints, projects, and/or program progress. May review approved plans, specifications, and/or materials for projects. Studies and reviews field work and makes recommendations for improvements. Coordinates with other departments and State agencies on matters relating to departmental services & programs. Keeps abreast of new trends and/or developments in field of specialization. Enforces regulations and restrictions pertaining to area of specialization. Participates in monitoring and administration of public service contracts. Participates in the development of specifications for and designs of new policies, procedures related to area of specialization. Evaluates proposed project requests to determine manpower, equipment, and supply requirements. May require knowledge of OSHA, MUTCD and related safety laws. Thorough knowledge of all federal, state, and/or local laws, regulations and policies affecting area of specialization. May Supervise other employees. High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by job related technical education as described in the position announcement and four (4) years of responsible experience in area of technical specialty. •For this specific position, there will be no substitutions• Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, supplies and techniques used in road maintenance Experience responding to citizen inquiries and resolving public concerns related to infrastructure maintenance Experience using GIS, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), mobile inspection applications, or similar technology Experience monitoring contractor performance and ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety requirements Thorough knowledge of all federal, state, and/or local laws, regulations and policies affecting area of specialization Experience documenting inspection findings, preparing reports, and maintaining accurate records W e are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity at all levels.
