Job Description

This recruitment is being conducted jointly by the Town of Gorham and the Town of Windham for the position of Deputy Chief - EMS. The selected candidate may be employed by either municipality depending on operational and administrative needs but will be expected to provide services to both communities. This is a skilled senior management position under the general direction of the Chief of Department that performs a variety of technical, administrative and supervisory work to provide support in planning, organizing, directing, implementing and leading a combination Fire-EMS department. Performance is evaluated based on daily observation and results. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school graduate or equivalent required, and a minimum of six years' experience as a firefighter/EMT, and three years' supervisory experience preferred. Additional eligibility qualifications include completion of Firefighter I with Firefighter 2 preferred; completion of Fire Instructor I & 2 with EMS Instructor Coordinator preferred; completion of Fire Officer I & II or equivalent training as soon as practical; minimum valid Maine
EMS EMT-P
; valid State of Maine Driver's License; experience in training and supervising subordinate personnel; exercises common sense and sound judgement in evaluating situations and in making decisions; effectively gives and receives verbal and written instructions; will reside within a 20-minute response time to town limits.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This full-time (40-hour) exempt salary position is eligible for a comprehensive package of pay, benefits, and paid time off. The Town currently pays 90% of the premium cost for all health insurance coverage levels and provides a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) to help cover the cost of out-of-pocket medical expenses, such as deductible and coinsurance. Individuals covered by an alternative health plan are eligible for an annual medical buyout in lieu of coverage (currently $3,037 - $6,812) based on coverage eligibility). In addition to a choice between two excellent health insurance plans, a 457(b) deferred compensation retirement plan with a 7.5% employer match, and paid vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays per year, employees have access to dental, vision, medical and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, short-term disability, IRAs, tuition reimbursement, and more.
