OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE
The Fire Captain provides supervision during emergency calls for service, as well as station duties with the primary responsibility for the safety and supervision of fire department work crews completing a variety of tasks. The Fire Captain is frequently the first point of contact between the fire department and the public and is expected to consistently deliver the highest level of customer service in all interactions with the community. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that will have a 24-hour schedule based on a 56-hour work week. Any combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.RELATIONSHIPS

$80,995-$88,504 annually Full salary range: $80,995-105,684 annuallySPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for supervision and development of a team of firefighters Respond as an initial incident commander to a variety of emergency and non-emergency incidents Direct fire crews per incident response guidelines at a variety of emergency scenes Attend officer meetings Participate in various fire department committees Collaborate with direct reports and command staff members on department matters Supervise non-emergency firefighter work details and special events, i.e. duty crew shifts, community events, and other department activities Responsible for the assessment and maintenance of fire equipment and fire stations Assist in department safety and training programs Develop and deliver department training for firefighters Complete official reports as required Other duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with fire ground leadership and supervisory skill sets Blue Card Incident Command certification IFSAC or MFSCB Firefighter II certification IFSAC or MFSCB Hazardous Materials - Operations LevelNREMT EMT-B
certification or have currentMN OEMS EMR
certification and obtain theNREMT EMT
certification within 6 months of hire. IFSAC or MFSCB Fire Apparatus Operator certification IFSAC or MFSCB Fire Officer 1 certification Must have five or more years of fire service experience Proficient in computer systems to include Microsoft 365 and fire department RMS systems.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS A
degree in Fire Science from an accredited institution An advanced degree in any discipline Fire Inspector 1 certification Must have or obtain Fire Instructor 1 within two years of appointment Past or current supervisory experience to include private sector, fire department, or other public safety experienceLEADERSHIP TEAM EXPECTATIONS
The Fire Captain is a key figure in the department leadership team. This is a supervisory position that will require the individual to actively participate in several aspects of the fire service. This may include interacting with the public, other public safety agencies, city leadership, and fire department command staff. The position will be expected to take an active role in department leadership by attending meetings both internal and external to the fire department.EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION
This position requires the ability to work outdoors and indoors in all types of weather, around dangerous machinery, work with chemicals, and near fumes and vapors. Must be able to verbally communicate clearly, adequately hear in loud situations, and have adequate vision, in order to perform the essential functions of the job. This position requires very frequent (and often required to perform the job adequately) significant physical activity. This includes standing, walking, lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying, climbing, kneeling, crawling, crouching, bending, reaching, the extended use of arm and leg muscles over long periods, lifting overhead, and stationary desk or bench work. This position will occasionally be required to lift/move up to 75-115 pounds.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
