Duties Help As a FIREFIGHTER, GS-0081-06, you will drive and opere firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles. Performs and directs assigned crew in the performance of crash/rescue and firefighting duties airfields handling large or complex aircraft (e.g. fighters, bombers, cargo, passenger). Performs and leads assigned crew in structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities which may include research and/or large industrial complexes. Performs and leads assigned crew in the rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to allevie further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility. Maintains firefighting equipment and fire stion facilities. Leads a crew of one or two firefighters, GS-04 or GS-05, assigned to man the major piece of motorized firefighting equipment in firefighting and rescue operions. Performs other duties as assigned. This position is designed as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparion for, or in response to, a ste emergency or disaster declarion. The employee is required to work a 72 hour week on a 48 hour on/72 hour off basis which includes weekends and holidays. 144 hours total a pay period. May be subject to recall. Employee must participe in a mandory physical fitness program. This is a Testing Designed Position. The employee is subject to random drug testing (IAW HQ-USAF letter ded 29 Jan 90). GENERAL EXPERIENCE

: Work experience or military service th demonstred the ability to follow directions and to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulions, and procedures and th otherwise demonstres the ability to perform or learn to perform the duties of the position.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

: Must possess least one year of specialized experience or equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-05), in the Federal service in the normal line of progression for the occupion. Experience th demonstred the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Such duties may include (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operions; (3) detection, reduction, or eliminion of potential fire hazards; (4) operion of fire communicions equipment; (5) controlling hazardous merials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed; and, experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel. Employee is required to be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certificion System, the Internional Fire Service Accredition Congress (IFSAC), or the Pro Board.
