JOB SUMMARY
The Engineer is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and readiness of assigned fire apparatus in support of emergency and non-emergency operations. This position operates fire apparatus, fire pumps, and specialized equipment; establishes water supply; assists with fire suppression, rescue, and EMS incidents; and ensures assigned apparatus and equipment remain operationally ready. The Engineer participates in department training, mentors firefighters and probationary personnel, performs station and equipment maintenance, and may serve as Acting Company Officer when assigned. This position requires sound judgment, technical proficiency, and a commitment to the department's mission, operational readiness, and professional standards. Key Responsibilities Safely operate and position fire apparatus during emergency and non-emergency responses. Maintain compliance with all department driving policies, state laws, and emergency vehicle operation procedures. Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly apparatus inspections. Ensure assigned apparatus remains clean, fueled, stocked, and operationally ready. Report mechanical deficiencies and coordinate repairs through the chain of command. Establish and maintain water supply operations. Operate fire pumps, aerial devices, generators, and other specialized equipment. Calculate and maintain proper pump pressures and water flow requirements. Monitor apparatus and equipment during incidents to ensure operational effectiveness. Assist with fire suppression, rescue operations, ventilation, forcible entry, and overhaul activities. Assist with EMS incidents in accordance with certification level and department protocols. Participate in department training programs and drills. Maintain proficiency in apparatus operation, pump calculations, firefighting tactics, and emergency response procedures. Assist in training and mentoring firefighters and probationary personnel. Act in the role of the company officer in their absence, as assigned by the shift commander. Remain current on department SOGs, policies, and operational changes. Perform station maintenance and housekeeping duties. Assist with supply management and equipment replacement recommendations. Complete maintenance documentation. Participate in department committees, projects, and community events as assigned. Maintain professional conduct both on and off duty. May perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Must possess and maintain all certifications required by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP), Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), and Spring Creek EMS for the position. Valid Texas driver's license with a driving record that meets department insurability requirements. Valid Class-B exempt firefighter" driver's license. Driver/Operator-Pumper certification from TCFP. Demonstrated knowledge of fire apparatus operation, pump operations, water supply, firefighting tactics, emergency vehicle operations, and emergency response procedures. Ability to safely operate fire apparatus, fire pumps, generators, and other specialized equipment in accordance with department policies and applicable laws. Ability to perform the essential physical requirements of firefighting and emergency response. Ability to complete required inspections, maintenance records, reports, and other department documentation accurately and timely. Ability to communicate effectively, exercise sound judgment, and work collaboratively with members of the department and partner agencies. Ability to assist in training and mentoring firefighters and probationary personnel. Ability to serve as Acting Company Officer when assigned. Must remain current on department policies, Standard Operating Guidelines (SOGs), training requirements, and operational procedures.
