Job Description
Job Summary:
Portable Technicians are responsible for inspecting, recharging, and servicing portable fire extinguishers for customers in commercial environments.Supervisory Responsibilities:
None Duties/Responsibilities:
Install portable fire extinguishers throughout the areas where fire hazards may exist, according to the standard practices and guidelines for service of fire extinguishers, such as the National Fire Protection Association's NFPA 10. Inspect portable fire extinguishers at regular intervals, usually monthly or annually, to ensure that they are in good working condition, have the correct pressure and weight, and are properly labeled and mounted. Test portable fire extinguishers to verify that they function properly and meet the performance requirements, such as discharge time, range, and flow rate. Maintain portable fire extinguishers by performing routine maintenance, such as cleaning, recharging, and replacing parts, such as valves, hoses, nozzles, and seals. Educate the users on how to operate and use the portable fire extinguishers safely and effectively, such as by demonstrating the PASS technique (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) and explaining the types and classes of fire extinguishers and their appropriate use. Keep records and reports of the service and maintenance of the portable fire extinguishers, such as the date, location, type, size, and condition of the fire extinguishers, and any problems or defects found and corrected. Report any problems or defects that cannot be fixed to the supervisors or clients and recommend the replacement or removal of the fire extinguishers if necessary. Comply with the local and state regulations for fire safety and obtain the required permits and licenses for the service and installation of the fire extinguishers. Assists with building and facilities maintenance as needed. Other duties as assigned.Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of the standard practices and guidelines for service of fire extinguishers, such as the National Fire Protection Association's NFPA 10 Knowledge of the fire codes in order to identify hazards and provide solutions to customers to ensure proper protection and compliance is offered/maintained. Knowledge of the local and state regulations for fire safety, Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate effectively with clients and supervisors. Ability to keep accurate records and reports. Ability to follow safety procedures and wear protective gear. Proficient computer skills Regular and reliable attendance.Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Must possess a current State Fire Marshall portable license or be willing to obtain one within the required timeframe. Must reside within a reasonable distance from our Brooklyn location Must be willing to submit to a pre-hire background check and drug screenPhysical Requirements:
Ability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting, carrying, and climbing ladders. Ability to walk and stand for at least 8 hours at a time. Ability to be exposed to dust, fumes, smoke, and steam Ability to use tools and equipment, such as gauges, scales, wrenches, and hoses. Must be able to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery. Work from lifts, ladders, and scaffolding Manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert 70 lbs Work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.
