DESCRIPTION
This recruitment is an Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) internal recruitment. ONLY applications from current, qualified non-probationary OCFA Fire Captains will be accepted.
THE POSITION
The EMS and Training Department is recruiting for one (1) Academy Coordinator for upcoming firefighter academies. This position requires a forty-hour workweek schedule (4/10, Monday through Thursday).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Academy Coordinator will handle the day-to-day management of the fire academy. Examples of essential functions include, but are not limited to: Oversight of academy instructors and recruits Provide staffing and logistical support for academy training and events Oversee tests and measurements based on minimum standards Act as liaison to management on academy progress Meet the requirements for maintaining State Fire Training (SFT) accreditation of OCFA's Firefighter Academy
COMPENSATION
Cadre members assigned to an academy are eligible to receive Staff Assignment Pay (SAP) and Staff Incentive Pay (SIP). Please refer to the IAFF

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current non-probationary OCFA Fire Captain in good standing Previous OCFA Fire Academy cadre experience SFT Firefighter 1 and 2 HIGHLY
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Willing to instruct two (2) or more fire academies SFT Instructor 1 SFT Ethical Leadership SFT Regional Instructor Orientation (RIO) SFT Registered Instructor SFT Firefighter 1 and 2 Skills Evaluator SFT Firefighter 1 and 2 Lead Skills Evaluator Peer Fitness Trainer Computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively Strong written communication skills No long-term vacations scheduled during the academies (vacations will be accommodated, when possible, especially during non-academy times in the schedule)
