City Overview:
Deltona is located along the I-4 corridor between Daytona Beach and Orlando. The city occupies approximately 47 square miles and sits between I-4 and SR 415 as the main transportation corridors. We have a population of approximately 98,500. The city is mostly residential in nature but is presently booming with commercial growth.
Department Overview:
Deltona Fire Rescue has (5) stations, (1) logistics station, (84) operations personnel, (16) administrative personnel, (4) ALS engines, (1) ALS Quint, (3) ALS Transport unit, (1) Division Chief's vehicle, (1) Heavy Rescue, Several specialty vehicles. We have an ALS Bike Team, Honor Guard, Special Operations Team (LTRT532) plus more.
Anticipated Hiring Range:
FF/EMT $15.30/HR ($45,747.000 Annually) Additional incentives currently offered, when qualified, but subject to collective bargaining: Paramedic Incentive (After clearing as a Lead Paramedic with the Agency and County Medical Director)

POSITION DEFINITION
: This job/class works under general supervision primarily being a Lieutenant, the purpose of this position is to protect life and property from all hazards within the department skill sets. Employees in this classification perform fire duties, rescuing persons and property from hazards, emergency medical service duties as assigned and performing any other related work as directed. They are responsible for following the Department's policies and procedures, and emergency plans and operation.
Essential Functions:
If hired as an EMT then must be a certified Volusia County Lead Paramedic within four years from date of hire. If hired as an EMT-Paramedic then must be a certified Volusia County Lead Paramedic within twelve months of date of hire. Must be a Working Out of Rank Engineer within two years from date of hire. (If was hired as Firefighter Trainee then from date of Firefighter Competency Certification) Obtains and maintains thorough knowledge of specific laws, plans, policies and procedures, and codes pertaining to the Fire Department and the assigned organizational subunit. Follows the directions of the chain of command and written policies during the operation of the organizational subunit in the event of natural or manmade disasters. Responds to situations while following orders to provide staffing in order to operate fire or EMS equipment. This can be within our city boundaries or outside of them. Responds to emergencies with a fire company or rescue unit, and answers Advanced or Basic Life Support medical emergencies as part of a fire or rescue company. Aids in the mitigation of both emergency and non-emergency incidents as directed by supervisor or policy. Expectation to serve overtime during times of vacancy or out of ordinary events. Expected to keep up to date in both knowledge and practical application with both EMS and Fire tasks. This shall be accomplished by attending professional and technical seminars, training classes and conferences. At times this may require off shift commitment to accomplish this task.
Firefighter Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts station tours; provides public information and strives to set a professional standard within the community. Expectation to proactively manage and exercise control over rumors and negativity within the workplace. This involves taking steps to prevent the spread of unfounded information or negative sentiments, and instead, fostering a positive and constructive work environment where open communication and teamwork are encouraged. Removes, extracts, and rescues persons from danger, recognizes acute symptoms requiring immediate care, and assists in administering lifesaving medical and rescue procedures to injured or afflicted persons. Connects hose to hydrants and pumps; joins hose sections and connects nozzles to hose; connects to standpipes and sprinkler systems where applicable; enters burning buildings with or without hose lines; operates nozzles and sprays water, foam, and/or other specialized control agents as applicable. Operates hand fire extinguishers and similar equipment in extinguishing fires; raises and climbs ladders; works from aerial apparatus where applicable; ventilates burning buildings to remove smoke and gases. Performs salvage operations including sweeping water, removing debris, and placing smoke ejectors. Makes daily inspections of apparatus and equipment and notifies supervisor of defects; performs cleaning and maintenance tasks in and about assigned station. Recognizes hazardous material situations; makes identification of unknown substances using specialized testing equipment if qualified; sets up decontamination procedures; assists agencies in the removal/disposal of hazardous material within qualifications. Performs work area and station cleaning and grounds maintenance. Cleaning of vehicles and equipment assigned. Performs other duties as required. Performs qualified EMS skills upon patients when assigned to them or is assisting others in the care of other qualified personnel. Assists Engineer with minor maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and equipment. Follow policy and orders from supervisors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED Working out of Classification (rank) within 24 months from date of hire (If hired as trainee then from date of compliance) Special Certifications and Licenses (meets CBA): Current Florida State Firefighters Certificate of Compliance Current Florida State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification (must be a Lead Paramedic within 4 years of hire) Current Florida State Driver's License Current Basic Life Support CPR Certification (AHA preferred) EVOC or CEVO 16-hour
Emergency Driving Certification Preferred:
