Videos Duties Help As a Wildland Firefighter (Fuels Management) your duties will include but are not limited to the following: This is a supervisory code 4 and the primary purpose of this position is to direct prescribed fire/fuels management program th includes fuels management activities and functions the unit/tribal level. Provide professional guidance in the development and implemention of multiple resource objectives including surveys, prescribed fire activities, fuels trements, and fire management while adhering to applicable laws, regulions, policies, and guidelines. Participe in the development, review, and modificion of prescribed fire plans. Monitor fire behavior, evalue fire effects, identify potential problems, and take approprie action. The Department of the Interior defines wildland firefighting experience as any non-structure fire th occurs in the wildland. Wildland firefighting experience is gained through work on the fire line in containment, control, suppression or use of wildland fire. This experience can be met by serving in a temporary, seasonal, or equivalent prive sector fire position. Wildland fires are cegorized into two distinct types: (1) Wildfires - Unplanned ignitions or prescribed fires th are declared wildfires; and (2) Prescribed Fires - Planned ignitions. This description includes only fire line experience on a Prescribed Fire; it does not include experience in the planning stages. Prescribed fire experience must be supplemented by fire suppression experience in order to be creditable as previous wildland firefighting experience. 2.)IFPM Requirement:
This position has been identified as one of the key fire management positions under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard. This position has been cegorized as a Prescribed Fire and Fuels Specialist - Modere Complexity and requires selectee to meet the minimum qualificion standards for IFPM prior to being placed into the position. To meet IFPM requirements, you must have possessed all of the following Nional Wildfire Coordining Group (NWCG) incident management qualificions and training requirements to be considered eligible for this position (currency not required time of referral, but may be required to obtain and maintain currency if selected): Prescribed Fire Burn Boss, Type 2 (RXB2) AND At least one of the following: Engine Boss (ENGB) OR Crew Boss (CRWB) OR Helicopter Manager (HMGB) In addition to the requirements described above, the following specialized experience is required. Physical Demands:
Work in the office is primarily sedentary. Field work does require frequent physical exertion, involving walking over rough terrain, sometimes for extended periods, and working under occasionally inclement (hot, cold, snow, wind, etc.) weher conditions. The incumbent must be in good physical condition in order to safety perform field activities. The incumbent must be able to perform duties in areas of uncontrolled wildfire where hazardous conditions exist. The incumbent must be able to fly as a passenger in helicopters and single engine fixed wing aircraft.Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both an office and field setting with field work. Field work involves exposure to temperure extremes, both from weher and fire conditions where falling trees and the presence of smoke and/or dust conditions cree hazardous conditions. The nure of fire management work requires th protective clothing (boots, hard hs, etc.) be worn.
