ANNOUNCEMENT
Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for part-time instructors for Fire Suppression Practicum in the Fire Science program. Instructors are hired on an as-needed basis. Applications will be placed in a pool for review as part-time teaching assignments become available.
POSITION DESCRIPTION A
practicum instructor facilitates practicum learning sessions and reports to the Fire Science Program Coordinator with respect to working with fire department leadership to establish session objectives; overseeing safety and instructional guidelines of the program; maintaining program tools, facilities and equipment; taking and reporting inventory of materials, and maintaining all practicum session records in accordance with college and program guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS
1.Member of the fire service with a minimum of three (3) years professional experience and qualified in educational methodologies. 2. Credentialed in firefighting, rescue operations and fire service instruction by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal Division of Personnel Standards and Education, or International Fire Science Accreditation Congress, or suitable equivalent. 3.Qualified through education and/or experience to assure proficiency in, but not limited to, the following areas: Supervision of practical firefighting skills courses General equipment, facilities and grounds maintenance Instructional methodologies Fire ground safety practices Information technology 4.Minimally certified at the following levels:
NFPA 1001
Fire Fighter
I & II NFPA
472 or
NFPA 1072
Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations
NFPA 1006
Vehicle Rescue Technician
I & II NFPA 1041
Fire Service Instructor I 5.Able to travel as needed 6.Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
STARTING PAY AND HOURS
Salary varies based on educational level and number of units taught. Starting rates for the current Academic Year can be viewed on SWIC's Employment page .
