https://www.cityofgrandville.com/government/departments/human_resources.php The City of Grandville seeks Grandville residents willing to be trained as a paid on call firefighter. No previous experience is required, HOWEVER the individual MUST reside within Grandville city limits. If selected, the City would send the individual through a multi-departmental fire academy to take place in the Fall of 2026. This academy meets multiple times per week with occasional Saturdays. Individuals will be paid $15.00 per hour while in academy. Applicants who are already certified with Michigan Firefighter I & II and/or EMT-B certified may not need to attend the academy, depending on their previous training. New hires would be paid $17.50 per hour if they have either firefighter OR EMT certifications. Those with both firefighter AND EMT certifications would be paid $20.00 per hour. Once fully certified and passed the probationary phase, all paid on call hires would be paid $21.21 per hour when responding to calls for service. Under the supervision of a ranking officer the individual participates in departmental activities to protect lives and property within the City in an on-call status. Responsibilities include but are not limited to responding to general calls for service and emergency calls, participating in fire suppression, and disaster operations.
Minimum Qualifications include:
High School diploma or equivalent, valid State of Michigan Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record with the ability to maintain one throughout employment, ability to obtain Firefighter I & II, and the ability to meet the physical and mental standard prescribed by the national Fire Professionals Association.
