Aug 14, 2026 Job Description Bismarck Public Schools is accepting applications for a Firefighter Instructor beginning the 2026-2027 School Year. This position will start August 14th, 2026. New Teacher Orientation will be held August 11th, 12th and 13th. A teaching contract is 187 days. External candidates are allowed to bring in up to 17 years of contracted K - 12 teaching experience. Reports To CRACTC Administration Position Summary The Central Regional Area Career & Technical Center (CRACTC) is seeking a qualified and student-centered professional to serve as an Online/Hybrid Firefighter Instructor for its high school Career & Technical Education (CTE) program. This position provides instruction to high school students interested in fire service careers through a combination of online learning, virtual instruction, and regional hands-on training experiences. The instructor will deliver high-quality, industry-aligned instruction that prepares students with foundational firefighting knowledge, safety practices, teamwork, leadership skills, and career readiness aligned to North Dakota CTE standards and applicable fire service industry expectations. This position is ideal for an experienced firefighter who is passionate about developing the next generation of emergency service professionals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Deliver engaging online and hybrid instruction to high school students enrolled in the Firefighter program. Develop, utilize, and maintain curriculum aligned to North Dakota CTE standards, industry expectations, and applicable fire service competencies.
Facilitate student learning through:
Online virtual instruction Effective consistent communications with students and other stakeholders Skills demonstrations Regional hands-on learning days Collaborate with regional fire departments, the NDFA, industry partners, and advisory committees to coordinate and supervise required in-person training experiences and skills assessments, as appropriate. Maintain regular communication with students, parents, school staff, CRACTC administration, and NDFA (where applicable). Monitor student progress, attendance, participation, and academic performance. Utilize CRACTC learning management systems and instructional technology platforms effectively. Promote professionalism, safety, teamwork, leadership, and employability skills within the program. Maintain accurate records related to grades, attendance, and program documentation. Participate in required professional development, staff meetings, and program improvement activities. Ensure compliance with CRACTC policies, North Dakota Department of Public Instruction requirements, North Dakota Department of Career and Technical Education, and applicable safety standards.
Minimum Qualifications Applicants must:
Possess a minimum of five (5) years of firefighting experience. Hold or be eligible to obtain a North Dakota Teaching License. Hold or be eligible to obtain North Dakota CTE certification. Qualify for and be willing to complete the North Dakota Transition to Teaching (T2T) program if not currently licensed/certified. Demonstrate strong communication, organization, and instructional skills. Be comfortable utilizing technology, or willing to learn, for online and hybrid instruction. Preferred Qualifications Preference may be given to applicants who possess: Current or previous firefighter training/instructional experience. Experience working with high school-aged students. Firefighter I and/or Firefighter II certifications. Experience with hybrid, online, or virtual instruction. Knowledge of Career & Technical Education programming and student career pathways. Experience collaborating with emergency service agencies or training organizations. Working Conditions Combination of remote/online instruction and regional in-person training activities. Regional travel may be required for hands-on learning days, meetings, and program events. Some evening or extended-hour activities may occasionally be required based on training schedules. Physical Requirements Ability to demonstrate and supervise firefighting-related skills and activities. Ability to lift, move, and utilize firefighting equipment as necessary. Ability to work in indoor and outdoor training environments.
