JOB SUMMARY:
Tolles Career & Technical Center is seeking a knowledgeable, motivated, and student-centered Firefighter / EMT Instructor to prepare high school students for careers in fire service, emergency medical services, and public safety. This instructor will provide rigorous classroom instruction, hands-on lab experiences, and scenario-based training that equips students with the technical skills, certifications, professionalism, and confidence needed to succeed in the emergency services field.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach Firefighter and EMT courses as assigned. Develop lesson plans aligned with state standards and industry certifications. Provide classroom, lab, and hands-on instruction in firefighting, rescue, EMS skills, patient care, and emergency response. Prepare students for certification testing through written and practical assessments. Monitor student progress and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs. Maintain a safe, organized classroom and training environment. Enforce safety procedures and proper use of PPE and equipment. Inspect, maintain, and inventory training tools, supplies, and equipment. Promote professionalism, teamwork, leadership, and ethical conduct. Guide students in career planning, employability skills, and postsecondary opportunities. Collaborate with staff to support student success and accommodations. Build partnerships with local fire departments, EMS agencies, and industry partners. Coordinate work-based learning, field experiences, and guest speakers. Maintain accurate records, attend required meetings/training, and uphold Board policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Ohio Department of Education license/certificate appropriate for the position, or ability to obtain licensure. Current Ohio Firefighter certification (Firefighter II preferred). Current Ohio EMT or Paramedic certification in good standing. Minimum of five years of recent industry experience in firefighting, EMS, or related emergency services. Current CPR/AED instructor certification or ability to obtain. Meets all mandated health requirements. Clear criminal background check and record free of violations prohibiting school employment. Ability to work effectively with students, families, staff, and community partners. Commitment to remaining current with fire and EMS practices, certifications, and training standards.
BENEFITS
Competitive salary commensurate with experience. (Salary range: $54,484.00 - $89,353.00) 189 day contract for first year new teachers; 185 days in subsequent contracts.
