Job Description

Brazos Count ESD No. 2 April 2025 Bryan, Texas Full-Time Apparatus Operator /
Paramedic Responsibilities:
Perform a wide variety of technical tasks and functions in support of fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, rescue, and hazardous material operations. May be assigned as the supervisor to lead personnel on emergency and non-emergency incidents.
Work Schedule:
Four (4) 12-hour shifts each week; alternating Monday - Thursday, Tuesday - Friday (NO regularly scheduled weekends)
Essential Job Functions:
Duties include but are not limited to the following: Work cooperatively with department employees/members, other agencies, and the public Perform all duties related to fire rescue, including connecting and carrying fire hose, carrying, and setting up ladders, directing water and chemicals on burning structures, vegetation, vehicle, and other objects. Hazardous material response. Communicate with customers, clients, or the public face-to-face, and/or one on one settings, email, and telephone. Disaster assistance. Tolerate extreme fluctuations in temperature while performing job duties. Work for long periods of time requiring sustained physical activity and intense concentration. Demonstrate acuity and ability of use of sense of sight and hearing to help determine the nature of an emergency and make operational decisions. Rescue people trapped in vehicles, burning buildings, and other places. Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others. Observe and follow safety rules and regulations including wearing safety apparel and devices during the course and scope of job-related duties. Inspect equipment and supplies daily to ensure that all emergencies can be handled; restock supplies. Learn job-related material through structured lectures and reading and through verbal instruction and observation. Attend and complete all training as required. Maintain all required certifications. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Texas Commission on Fire Protection Intermediate Firefighter (or higher) Texas Department of Health and Services EMT-Paramedic Texas Commission on Fire Protection Pumper Operator (or obtain within first six-months of hire date) Must have a valid Texas Class B Exempt License (obtain within 90 days). Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to read, write and fluently speak English. Experience in a paid or combination fire department preferred (Fire Chief may use discretion). High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be 18 years of age or older. Pass a background check. Pass a medical exam and drug screen test.
Benefits:
Starting Wage:
$22.00 per hour ($45,760 annually) base to $63,448 including scheduled FLSA OT, and 10 Holidays (12 hours), paid bi-weekly.
Average Hours/Week:
Forty (40) hour work week (hourly, non-exempt), Overtime after 40 hours per week.
Holiday Pay:
1.5x Hourly Rate for 10 Holidays (12 hours) Paid Time Off (PTO): Typical Vacation and Sick Time accrual (eligible after probationary period)
Insurance:
100% Employee Coverage (paid by District)
Retirement:
Texas County and District Retirement System ("TCDRS") 7% Employee contribution, with 200% match. . Out of state applicants must be able to transfer their home state training/certifications to the State of Texas. The TCFP recognizes certification with an International Fire Service Accreditation Congress ("IFSAC") seal.
