Step 1 Pay $ 76,387.00 Step 2 Pay $ 79,442.48 Step 3 Pay $ 82,620.18 Step 4 Pay $ 85,924.99 Max out at Step 7 $ 96,653.92 Firefighters that hold a TCFP certification in Basic Structure Fire Suppression and are licensed by the state of Texas as a certified Emergency Medical Technician- Paramedic (EMT-P) may be eligible for a lateral entry.
Requirement for lateral:
Step 1- One Year of experience or less Step 2
- Two Years of experience Step 3
- Three Years of experience Step 4
- Four Years or more of experience Under the general direction of a Station Officer, the Firefighter/Paramedic performs professional fire suppression, advanced emergency medical services, rescue, and public safety functions to protect life, property, and the community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Emergency Response and Fire Suppression:
Responds to fire, emergency medical, rescue, hazardous materials, and other service calls. Performs firefighting, rescue, and suppression duties in accordance with departmental procedures, ensuring the safety of personnel and the public. Protects life and property from fire, smoke, water, and other hazards.Advanced Emergency Medical Services:
Provides advanced life support (ALS) emergency medical care within the scope of Paramedic certification, including patient assessment, advanced airway management, cardiac monitoring, medication administration, and treatment during medical emergencies and trauma incidents. Ensures accurate patient care documentation and compliance with medical protocols and legal requirements.Operational Readiness and Equipment Maintenance:
Operates and maintains fire apparatus, tools, equipment, and support vehicles. Calculates and applies appropriate water pressure, operates pumps, and reports mechanical or safety issues through the chain of command. Maintains stations, City facilities, grounds, and fire hydrants to support operational readiness.Training and Professional Development:
Participates in drills, demonstrations, training sessions, and continuing education programs to maintain Paramedic licensure, fire certifications, and departmental competencies. Maintains physical and mental fitness necessary to perform hazardous duties under stressful and adverse conditions.Fire Prevention and Pre-Incident Planning:
Assists with fire prevention activities, including pre-planning commercial occupancies for code compliance, egress, and firefighter safety. Supports inspections, surveys, and public safety initiatives designed to reduce community risk.Community Engagement and Public Education:
Participates in public safety education programs, demonstrations, and outreach activities to promote fire safety, emergency preparedness, and injury prevention within the community.Documentation and Administrative Support:
Prepares and submits fire reports, EMS patient care reports, EPCRs, and other required documentation accurately and timely. Communicates work activities, public inquiries, and complaints to supervisors as appropriate.Policy Compliance and Professional Conduct:
Adheres to City, Department, and shift policies, procedures, and safety standards. Maintains professional conduct and works cooperatively with supervisors, peers, and the public.Other Duties:

Fire Suppression, ALS, and Rescue Operations:
Extensive knowledge of fire suppression techniques, advanced life support emergency medical services, rescue operations, hazardous materials awareness, and fire behavior. Ability to safely and effectively perform operations in emergency environments.Advanced Medical Knowledge and Patient Care:
Proficiency in human anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and advanced emergency medical treatment protocols. Ability to provide ALS care in accordance with certification standards, laws, and departmental medical direction.Operational Judgment and Problem-Solving:
Ability to solve complex problems, follow directions, and make sound decisions under stressful, hazardous, and rapidly changing conditions. Demonstrates emotional stability, courage, and situational awareness.Communication and Professional Effectiveness:
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, partner agencies, and the public. Ability to read and comprehend written materials, signage, maps, and operational instructions.Physical and Technical Skills:
Ability to maintain physical endurance, strength, and agility necessary to perform firefighting, rescue, and advanced medical duties. Ability to operate fire apparatus, tools, and medical equipment safely and efficiently. Typical Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid Texas Class B drivers license within six months of hire date. Must be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) by date of hire. Must be certified as a Firefighter by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) by date of hire OR Must successfully complete the fire academy of the department's choosing and must successfully obtain firefighter certification in accordance with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) by a department designated date.Similar jobs in Sachse, TX
