Engine Boss/COO Job Summary:

The Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) serves on a type 6 engine crew performing fire suppression and fuels management duties in adverse climate, fuel, and terrain conditions. The FFT2 is supervised by the Engine Boss while on assignment and reports to the COO.

Job Duties:

Prepare and mobilize by assuring individual readiness and obtaining a briefing from the Engine Boss. Establish and maintain the physical fitness level necessary to effectively perform hard physical labor for extended periods of time under adverse climate, fuel, and terrain conditions. Perform wildland fire duties including suppression, preparation, ignition, monitoring, holding, and mop-up. Use standard wildland firefighting tools such as pulaskis, shovels, drip torches and fusees as instructed by the Engine Boss. Perform engine operations including running the pump, deploying hoselays Participate in After Action Reviews (AAR) Apply knowledge of fuels, terrain, weather, and fire behavior Use Incident Command System (ICS) terminology, organization, and command structure. Follow established processes and chain of command for collecting, producing, and distributing information. Report any changes in fire behavior or hazardous conditions to the Engine Boss. Ensure basic understanding of multichannel Radio operation. Use plain language and ICS Terminology Use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) Perform fireline duties Use Incident Response Pocket Guide (IRPG) to guide actions Look, listen, and learn. Ask questions when appropriate and ensure you understand instructions when they are given. Be a student of fire. Observe interactions and operations to expand knowledge. Manage Risk Operate within your skill level and limitations Apply the Risk Management Process as stated in the IRPG Report all accidents or injuries to Engine Boss Establish LCES Apply the Standard Firefighting Orders and Watch Out Situations to your assignment as stated in the IRPG Use Look Up, Down and Around in the IRPG Comply with all safety practices and procedures Provide for health, safety, and welfare for yourself, your crew and those around you Ensure proper refurbishing and resupply of food, water and supplies. Ensure cleanliness of the engine including removing trash. Follow company standard operating procedures (SOPs), company behavior expectations and other company policies.

Work Hours:

On-call June-October or when the season is complete. Hours vary depending on assignment. Qualifications /
