Job Description

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is responsible for managing and protecting the state's renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of the Secretary exists to provide leadership and support services, administrative direction, and accountability for departmental programs; administrative direction and leadership to ensure the success of subordinate programs; and department-wide coordination, communication, personnel and basic resources needed to accomplish the department's mission. This Captain position will plan, direct and manage general and complex enforcement activities and administrative enforcement programs related to the management, protection and conservation of wildlife and fisheries resources and the state's boating program. This includes all facets of surveillance, interrogation, investigation, apprehension and arrest of violators of state and federal laws, boating programs, boating crash investigations, state boating education programs and other division support programs. This Promotional opportunity is limited to current permanent status classified employees within the Office of the Secretary, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries only. This position is located within the Enforcement Division of the Office of the Secretary in East Baton Rouge Parish. One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant or higher rank in state service: Six years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification. Possession of a current driver's license. Applicants may be required to qualify as an ex-officio notary public. An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately, and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties. Job Duties:
Plans, directs and manages general and complex enforcement activities of a region's operational/patrol and administrative enforcement programs related to the management, protection and conservation of wildlife and fisheries resources and the state's boating program. This includes all facets of surveillance, interrogation, investigation, apprehension and arrest of violators of state and federal laws, boating programs, boating crash investigations, state boating education programs and other division support programs. Directly supervises and evaluates Lieutenants and other assigned subordinates and civilian employees in the Communications Section and the Technology Support Section. Schedules and assigns work and reviews schedules and training needs. Ensure optimum utilization and productivity of all resources, equipment, and budgets and personnel assigned to Communications. Coordinates and Manages agency Computed Aided Dispatching (CAD) program, and works with CAD vender on any maintenance/improvements to CAD. Coordinates and Manages agency Records Management System (RMS) program, and works RMS vendor on any maintenance / improvements to RMS. Coordinates and Manages agency Ecitation program, and works with the Ecitation vendor on any maintenance / improvements in Ecitation. Coordinates and Provides oversight for the Body Worn Camera (BWC) Program. Develops and implements training for BWC Users.
