7/6/2026 Job Description and Duties The Dental Board of California (Board) is looking for candidates to apply for the Investigator position in the Enforcement Field Office in Orange. Under the supervision of the Supervising Investigator I, the Investigator independently conducts the most sensitive, complex and diverse administrative, civil and criminal investigations of the vocational and professional licentiates of the Dental Board of the Department of Consumer Affairs and those individuals required to be licensed by the department. Dental Board of California Department Information The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) protects and serves California consumers while ensuring a competent and fair marketplace. DCA educates consumers and protects professionals from unfair competition by unlicensed practitioners. DCA is a unique and dynamic department consisting of 36 different boards, bureaus, a commission, and a program that license and regulate more than 3.4 million licensees in more than 280 license types including certificates, registrations, and permits. DCA has many exciting career opportunities available and is dedicated to hiring and retaining qualified employees. This position is with the Enforcement Division in the Orange field office within the Dental Board of California (Board). The Board's mission is to protect and promote the health and safety of consumers of the State of California. The Board licenses and regulates over 104,000 dental professionals; consisting of dentists (DDS), registered dental assistants (RDA), and registered dental assistants in extended functions (RDAEF). In addition, the Board has the responsibility for setting the duties and functions of unlicensed dental assistants. The Board's highest priority is the protection of the public when exercising its licensing, regulatory, and disciplinary functions. The primary methods by which the Board achieves this goal are: issuing licenses to eligible applicants; investigating complaints against licensees and disciplining licensees for violations of the Dental Practice Act; monitoring licensees whose licenses have been placed on probation; and managing the Diversion Program for licensees whose practice may be impaired due to abuse of dangerous drugs or alcohol. Criminal Offender Record Information:
Title 11, section 703 (d) of the California Code of Regulations requires criminal record checks of all personnel who have access to Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI). Pursuant to this requirement, applicants for this position will be required to submit fingerprints to the Department of Justice and be cleared before hiring. In accordance to DCA's (CORI) procedures, clearance shall be maintained while employed in a CORI-designated position. Additionally, the position routinely works with sensitive and confidential issues and/or materials and is expected to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of documents and topics pertaining to individuals or to sensitive program materials at all times.
POST CERTIFICATION
The incumbent will be required to provide proof of successful completion of a basic investigative training course as prescribed by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to apply for this position. If the incumbent has not successfully completed the POST course, the application will be rejected. An investigator must perform the full range of peace officer duties and responsibilities in the accomplishment of their assignments. In addition, the investigator must qualify to carry a firearm, have a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record, and be able to operate a motor vehicle safely. The position requires substantial field work (majority of the time) and it is typically more efficient for the employee to travel directly from home to the field work location.
