This position is headquartered in the Sacramento HQ but based out of Salida. The Sacramento HQ Actions Unit is looking for a dependable Driver Safety Hearing Officer (DSHO) who is committed to serving the public and promoting safety on California roadways. Under the direction of a Driver Safety Manager I, the Driver Safety Hearing Officer will conduct investigations, reexaminations, administrative hearings, and interviews. This position involves analyzing, and evaluating cases related to medical requirements for commercial drivers, financial responsibility, fraud, negligent operator actions, Administrative Per Se, and Special Certificates. The DSHO writes legal reports detailing case issues, findings, and decisions; verifies evidence to make and submit findings of fact and conclusions to respondents, their representatives, and the records according to statute, case law, and DMV policies and procedures regarding driving privileges; renders immediate decisions based upon hearing proceedings; issues appropriate written orders and notices of decision to customers; analyzes and verifies accuracy of administrative, medical, and legal documents; provides information at Driver Safety functions and maintains communication with law enforcement, medical professionals, courts, attorneys and others. Part time telework may be available. All eligible applicants may apply. A training and development assignment may be considered. SROA/Surplus candidates are encouraged to apply. Will be required to sit and type for long periods of time. Occasional filing involves reaching above the head to below the waist. May be required to traverse about the office for short periods of time. May occasionally be required to move and position case files and other office related items weighing up to 15 pounds. Occasional filing involves reaching above the head or below the waist. Traveling by car to training, hearing points and/or resident hearing locations may be required. The DMV is responsible for registering approximately 36 million vehicles in California, and serving 34 million driver license and identification card holders, collecting over $14 billion in annual revenue. The DMV also maintains and oversees many other functions.
