Job Description

The Palm Beach County Value Adjustment Board (VAB) is hiring special magistrates for its 2026 hearings, held October 2026 - May 2027. Special magistrates conduct hearings and prepare recommended decisions for consideration by the VAB. Compensation is $150 per hour, with a minimum 4-hour per day guarantee. All special magistrates selected by the VAB must also agree to the terms of the VAB's Special Magistrate Agreement. July 6, 2026 Special magistrates hearing real estate valuation cases must be state licensed real estate appraisers. Special magistrates hearing tangible personal property cases must be designated members of a nationally recognized appraisers' organization. Special magistrates hearing cases related to exemptions, classifications, portability, and other legal matters must be members of the Florida Bar in good standing with experience in ad valorem taxation. All special magistrate applicants must have at least three (3) years' experience and must have completed training and passed the examination provided by the Florida Department of Revenue.
