POSITION SUMMARY
The work of this position involves filing, recording and tracking all criminal matters processed by Magistrate Court to include warrants, bad check citations, County Ordinance violations, pre-warrant hearings, preliminary hearings, witness subpoenas, and rule nisi. The position will require a courtroom presence and the ability to draft judge's orders. The work of this position also involves filing, recording and tracking all civil matters processed by Magistrate Court. The work is typically to give or exchange information, provide services and process civil claims. The work is performed in an office and typically performed sitting at a desk with intermittent standing, walking, stooping or bending. The employee lifts light objects such as docket books daily. The Clerk of Magistrate Court assigns work in terms of general instructions. The employee uses much judgment in completing the work assignments. New or one-time tasks are assigned with specific instructions prior to beginning the task. The supervisor spot-checks the accuracy of the work and the nature and propriety of the final results. The Georgia Civil Code and Georgia Magistrate Court Guide provide guidelines for the process of civil claims. These guides are clear and specific, but interpretation is required in determining if a case can be served under the guidelines for Magistrate Court. Constant interruption by the telephone and the general public contributes to the difficulty of the work. Also, the general public is sometimes difficult to deal with when they are hostile to being served civil papers from the court. Contacts are generally with the general public, co-workers, attorneys, collection agencies, law enforcement officers, and other county employees. A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.Similar jobs in Evans, GA
